Synopsis of Study
I am working on the local history for the Apatani community in the eastern Himalayas of North East of India. My project explores the possible methodological framework that could integrate the existing oral traditions, oral histories, memories, rhetorics, written and archival sources to constructing the local history of a community with no writing practice. I am interested in their origin and their reception among different sections (age groups, class, race, sect and gender) of the community. I am looking at local history and their inter-linkages to larger history. My work also involves doing a people centric critical historiography. Thus, I am also interested in understanding of literate society, State and market as an ideological vehicle that modernizes and transform indigenous communities. In the process they not only affect the course of future history but also influences how community perceives and remembers their past.

Synopsis of Study
The contestations and resistances by the ethnocultural minority groups are not constituted by mere figments of imaginary existential threats; they are sublime articulations of real existence. While coexistence should remain the mainstay in any proposed frame of political decentralisation, a fine balance must be arrived at to negotiate historical tensions that persist.
